Pupil and teacher asbestos claims

In 2015 the National Union of Teachers warned that the government must "tackle the scourge of asbestos in schools", saying that it had failed to "tackle the legacy" of the substance's widespread use in the construction of educational establishments across the country, with it still in place in 86 percent of schools.

If you have been diagnosed with a condition such as asbestosis or mesothelioma and have worked as a teacher, asbestos compensation may be something you are entitled to. Contact the personal injury solicitors at Asbestos Claim Centre today for more information about how we can help you ensure the best possible chance of receiving suitable legal redress.

School teacher and school pupil claims

According to statistics provided by the National Union of Teachers, up to 300 adults die each year as a result of asbestos illnesses caused by exposure to asbestos in the classrooms.

Furthermore, the union revealed the level of asbestos deaths caused by exposure in the classroom to be on the rise, with 22 teacher deaths in 2012 – the number of fatalities in 1980 was recorded at just three. The current figure is believed to be the highest in the world.

And it is not only the pupils and teachers of the past who are at risk. Those who work and study in the nation's schools today may also, without action being taken, be in danger of exposure.

"We call upon the new Government to announce real action without further delay so that we can continue to work together to keep our schools safe," said the NUT. "We need a concerted effort on a national scale. Children, parents and staff deserve better than to be exposed to asbestos on a daily basis."
