Throughout the twentieth century asbestos was used in many trades in the UK, including plumbing, electrical work, shipbuilding and, of course, roofing.
If you or a close family member worked as a roofer and were exposed to asbestos during the course of employment, Asbestos Claim Centre can help you secure full redress for your pain, suffering and losses.

Asbestos exposure during roofing work
Asbestos was widely used in the roofing industry because of its insulation properties, whether it formed part of tiles, felt, corrugated roof sheets or gutters, it was an ever-present reality for the UK's roofers in the twentieth century.
Sadly, of these roofers, hundreds, if not thousands, have gone on to develop asbestos illnesses such as mesothelioma and asbestosis as a result of their exposure, often many decades after their employment.
1999, a watershed year
In 1999 legislation was passed that forbade the importation, supply or use of asbestos across all UK industries. This meant that roofers would no longer have to suffer such widespread exposure to the material; however, given that asbestos is still present in many public and private buildings, the threat is still present to those who work on pre-1999 buildings.
An employer's duties
Employers have a duty to protect roofers from the risks presented by asbestos. For example, asbestos surveys should be undertaken, where appropriate, personal protective equipment should be worn and workers should always be educated of the dangers.
Many asbestos illness – for example, mesothelioma and asbestosis – have long latency periods. This means that frequently do not become apparent until many years after exposure – often after as long as five or six decades.
However, this fact does not prevent those affected from claiming. Asbestos claim solicitors can help those affected, as well as their families, trace both employers and liability insurers, even in cases where they have gone out of business.
